Introduction to Léa MEUNIER, Qualified Physiotherapist and Masseuse

Hello Léa, could you please introduce yourself briefly to our readers?

Hello, I'm Léa Meunier, 35 years old, and I manage a thriving physiotherapy practice in France alongside three dedicated colleagues. I graduated as a physiotherapist from IFMK in Montpellier, and I completed specialised training as a manual therapist at ITMP.

Understanding Physiotherapy

What does the role of a physiotherapist entail?

As a physiotherapist, my primary role revolves around rehabilitating patients with diverse health conditions. This includes respiratory physiotherapy, treating traumatic injuries, managing rheumatic disorders, and aiding in sports injury recovery, among other specialties.

What are the most common pathologies you treat?

I regularly work with patients dealing with neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's, post-stroke rehabilitation, respiratory ailments, as well as various musculoskeletal traumas such as fractures and sprains. Each case requires a personalised treatment plan tailored to the individual's specific needs.

Choosing Physiotherapy

Why did you choose physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy appealed to me due to its active role in healthcare and my deep-seated passion for patient-centred care.

Your Early Career as a Physiotherapist

Did you join a practice or start your own?

I established my practice in Boirargues seven years ago, and it has been a fulfilling journey ever since.

What factors influenced opening your practice in Boirargues?

The growth in residential units and development in Boirargues created a demand for physiotherapy services, which prompted my decision to open my practice there.

Can you describe the steps to opening your practice and share advice?

Conducting a thorough market study and assessing costs for premises, renovations, and equipment were crucial. Reflecting on long-term commitment and personal work preferences also played pivotal roles.

Challenges and Advice for Future Physiotherapists

What challenges did you face?

Initially, managing staff and adapting to variable schedules were significant challenges.

What advice would you give future physiotherapists?

Starting with locum work to gain diverse experience before committing to a permanent position is invaluable. Identifying your preferred work environment early on ensures professional satisfaction.

The Importance of Medical Scrubs in Your Routine

What role do medical scrubs play for you?

Medical scrubs are integral to our daily practice, ensuring hygiene and maintaining a professional image for myself and my colleagues.

How important is scrub sustainability and hygiene in your practice?

Durability and hygiene are paramount. I have had my scrubs for seven years, maintaining them weekly to ensure longevity and uphold hygiene standards.

What factors are crucial when choosing medical attire?

For me, length for coverage, practical pockets, size for ease of movement, comfortable material, and durable quality are crucial factors.
